The East and West Ranch

The road to perfection in an ever changing cattle industry is an endless and objective one. For 121 years, we have been trying to navigate this journey.  We have changed our calving seasons, feeding programs, genetics, and like every rancher, endured economical and environmental hardships. While we continuously look for ways to change and improve, one thing always remains the same: our desire to achieve premium black angus cattle.

We have gone from a 700 pound yearling steer to a now 950 pound average steer off grass at the end of August.  As our genetics improve, so must our nutrition as the two go hand in hand. From selecting our best females and optimal bulls, to our grazing, farming, and feeding program, we've learned how to economically create pounds and longevity.

Although perfection can never be attained, a program that fits us economically to create our desired conversions can be. There is no one size fits all program when it comes to ranching, but we pride ourselves in adapting and being progressive.

He married Janice Steinbach, also a fourth generation rancher, in 1981, from Bassano, Alberta. They have two children, Stuart and Megan and are proud to share this lifestyle with them and their five grandchildren.

Megan and Jon

Megan married Jonathan Weir from Dunmore, Alberta in 2009. Jon spent 14 years as a mechanic in the oil and gas industry before becoming a rancher along side his wife. They have three children, Alexis (2010), Charlie (2012), and Samantha (2013). It brings them great joy to be ranching together.

Although we pride ourselves on our ranching operation, we are most proud of our family relationship. Our five kids are best friends. Whether hanging out on the deck, swimming, working cattle, or playing in a mud puddle, we put an emphasis on family and friendship.
